Pummelig, aber real

Batman gibt es wirklich. Er ist allerdings etwas pummeliger als die Comic- und Filmversion und logiert auch nicht in der fiktiven Metropole Gotham. Vielmehr ist er seit ein paar Tagen in der britischen Stahl- und Kohlestadt Sheffield im Dauereinsatz: Er taucht in Spitälern auf, gibt Obdachlosen Geld und schlichtet Regale in Sozialmärkten. Als Gegenleistung für die guten Taten verlangt der liebenswerte Spinner nur, dass man ihn wirklich für Batman halten soll. Und ganz Großbritannien liebt ihn dafür.

Schlechter Akzent als einziger Fehler

Gute Nachrichten sind in Großbritannien derzeit eine Seltenheit. Die Finanzkrise wirkt sich noch verheerender aus als anderswo in Europa, und die Prognosen zur Arbeitslosigkeit sind ebenso düster wie jene zum Budgetdefizit. Doch nun gibt es einen Lichtblick: Batman.

Zumindest behauptet ein Unbekannter, der seit Tagen in Sheffield einen karitativen Marathon hinlegt, er sei tatsächlich der echte Batman. Die einigermaßen triste Stahl- und Kohlestadt habe seinen Einsatz nun dringender nötig als seine Heimat Gotham, sagt er in Interviews.

Briten lieben "ihren" Batman
Interviews muss der seltsame Herr im originalgetreuen Batman-Kostüm genügend geben, seit die britischen Medien auf ihn aufmerksam wurden. Die Bevölkerung kann von dem herzerweichenden Sonderling angesichts sonst so trister Aussichten gar nicht genug bekommen.

"Batman" wiederum nutzt die Medienpräsenz für seine Mission: Er fordert jeden auf, es ihm gleichzutun. Außerdem betont er, die wahren Helden seien Ärzte und Krankenschwestern, Lehrer und Kindergärtnerinnen und jeder, der etwas für die Gemeinschaft tue.

Grottenschlechter Akzent
Er sei nur ein Held, wenn er seine Maske aufhabe, betont der etwas ältere und pummelige Mann außerdem stets - im zivilen Leben jedoch nur ein "Playboy-Millionär". In Wirklichkeit dürfte der "dunkle Ritter von Sheffield" jedoch ein örtlicher Kleinunternehmer sein.

Für sich fordert er nur, dass man ihn wirklich als "Batman" akzeptiert und nicht nur jemanden, der Batman spielt. So spricht er etwa immer mit einem - ziemlich schlecht imitierten - US-amerikanischen Akzent, wenn er in seiner Superheldenrolle die Straßen sicher macht.

Eine "einfache Botschaft"
Man schätzt, dass er bisher etwa 10.000 Pfund (11.200 Euro) an Bedürftige verteilt und gespendet hat. Noch lieber packt er selbst an, etwa in Suppenküchen und Spitälern. Nicht einmal zum Einschlichten von neuer Ware in die Regale von Sozialmärkten ist er sich zu schade.

Dem "Daily Express" sagte der Mann, seine Botschaft sei "einfach": Man müsse "kein Superheld und auch nicht superreich" sein, um Gutes zu tun. Gegenüber der Nachrichtenagentur UPI meinte er: "Mir ist es egal, wenn manche Leute mich für einen Narren halten. Wenn ich damit andere anrege, ihre Zeit und ihr Geld einem guten Zweck zu widmen, war es das wert."

Its an interesting idea, but I figured blogging was for long, extended diatribes about politics, religion and the use of cork in wine bottles. Hope we can keep it alive.

what a brilliant idea & well done! thanks for the short update and i hope all is well. in terms of music i can't provide or suggest any ideas, really, 'cause of my lack ;) of interest. i'm still stuck with my playlist i've created when i set up my ipod and haven't changed anything around since. but i'll certainly check your recommendation, ta! talking of getting back to normal english sentences it can be said that the writing up of my work doesn't necessarily assist in improving my socialising skills as well as sentences in any other language required at the moment. a very stressful stage at the moment and i'll be the happiest man once all is done. mel's got her viva this thursday, so i'll carry my laptop up to leeds uni and get some work done while waiting for the 'krabauzi'. champagne is in the fridge and 'emergency' cigarettes are prepared ;) haha.

furthermore we're down to 9 days and i hope you give me a short call when you're back in cambridge... next week that is, right..?!? 07772910496!

And here is my first suggestion in terms of music. I just found this guy - and some of you probably have already heard of him, but it's great music with a fantastic beat...

All you Klausis out there,

While sitting on my couch, drinking mexican beer, talking to my roommate's parrot, and listening to some old Bad Religion record, I created this blog for us to share our thoughts! I haven't been writing anything apart from scientific stuff for the last couple of years, which means that I actually have lost the capability to form nice sentences made out of proper words, so maybe this will help!
Furthermore, I'm always in search of new music, ideas, books... so if you guys or girls have something that's new and hot (maybe even greasy), you can share it with the rest of the Klausis.

However, I think that this should be a completely open forum and everybody should post here whatever she/he thinks. And maybe it even could be an alternative way to things like facebook for us Klausis to stay connected even between continents!

So dudes and dudettes, if you have anything to say, please do it - a whole story, a sentence, a suggestions or even a single word!
